new family shelter & affordable housing co-located on our campus in Burien!

Mary’s Place and Mercy Housing Northwest are developing a unique campus of co-located permanent affordable housing alongside a new shelter facility for families experiencing homelessness on the site of the former Mary’s Place family shelter in Burien.

When completed in 2027, the project will provide 200 beds of emergency shelter and 90 units of permanently affordable housing, creating a pathway from crisis to stability for families with children on a welcoming, inclusive, beautiful campus. A half-pitch soccer field and a basketball court on the site, funded by the RAVE Foundation, Reign FC, Looking Out Foundation, Seattle Storm, and Symetra, will offer many ways for families and children to have fun together!

The housing, developed and operated by Mercy Housing Northwest, will be permanently affordable housing for families earning at or below 60% of the area median income—at least 30 of which will be reserved for families transitioning out of homelessness, creating a unique opportunity for families to move from shelter into housing, while maintaining their community and school connections.

Meeting a critical need for affordable family housing and shelter in King County, this innovative model, developed in partnership with the community and our guests and staff, will serve as a national model for addressing family homelessness amid a growing urban crisis.
