Join Mary’s Place Youth Action Program (YAP) and make a difference in your community!
Our yap members are a team of students (13+) who are committed to learning about the root causes of family homelessness and taking action to end it in their community. YAP members accomplish this through a variety of volunteer and learning opportunities.
Some of the activities YAP members take part in:
reading articles and books from the leading authorities on homelessness
at-home kit-building and donation projects to help meet the needs of all our clients and bring some joy to our families in shelter
In-person volunteer events to take a hands-on approach to ending homelessness, while also meeting other service-oriented teens
virtual book clubs to discuss quarterly reading material and how it applies to our immediate community
how it works:
each YAP activity will be worth a certain number of points. For a list of activities and point breakdown, click here
YAP members will be responsible for earning a minimum of 20 points annually, which can be achieved through two or three activities per quarter. This could be entirely virtual, entirely in-person, or a combination of the two
YAP members will self-manage their participation in the program. The YAP program is a good fit for self-starting students who want to bring a higher level of specificity to their volunteer work
