NW furniture Bank - making a house a home!

Mary’s Place is grateful for the many community partners that provide services and resources that support our guests on their journey back into permanent housing. One of those partners is NW Furniture Bank which provides home furnishings to families, including Mary's Place families, transitioning to a new home. NW Furniture Bank has served our neighbors across the region since 2007, helping hundreds of people each month find the comfort items that make a house a home.

Recently, NW Furniture Bank created this video for their Chair Affair fundraiser. Olga Chinka, Make-A-Home Program Coordinator at Mary’s Place, was interviewed and explained how NW Furniture Bank helps Mary’s Place guests transition to permanent housing with furnishings that suit their needs and bring joy to their new start.

“Many families lose everything when they lose their home and they have to leave. Being able to go to NW Furniture Bank and pick out items on your own is huge in restoring dignity. When you get to pick out the couch you will sit on for family night or movie nights and choose a table you will eat at when you invite family and friends over - it’s a huge deal for our families,” Olga shares.

The services NW Furniture Bank provides are rare and vital to low-income families. If you would like to donate your gently used furniture or home items to NW Furniture Bank, you can find out more on their website.

When the furniture is set up in a family’s new home, it’s a very special moment for everyone. “Just to see the excitement on all the kids’ faces - it’s like Christmas morning! Everyone is squealing and happy, and it makes my heart feel so full,” Olga said.
