Our annual Back to School Extravaganza will take place on September 1 where we will make sure that nearly 300 kids are ready for the school year with new shoes, haircuts, back packs, notebooks, and pencils–everything they need to feel confident and ready to learn!
**UPDATE: The event was huge success! So many happy kids and parents with new clothes, shoes, backpacks, supplies, and haircuts for the new school year!
Thank you to Amazon.com for hosting this year’s BIG event and sending such awesome volunteers to be personal shoppers, and to Comcast and Vulcan Inc. for sponsoring! More than 300 kids and their parents came by! So many made this day possible! Awesome volunteers, and over 50 companies and organizations that held drives to collect all these supplies and clothes! Thanks, Radford Creative | Still + Motion Picture for the back to school portraits!! Thanks to the Church of Scientology of Washington State for their interfaith drive that collected more than 250 backpacks, to Old Navy for a great deal on clothes, REI Inc for water bottles for all, and Taco Time NW for the yummy taco bar!
Mary’s Place has a Girl Scout troop that meets weekly to learn, sing, play, and get some time away from thinking about anything else but being together with friends! The troop is made up of girls of all ages! Recently, KIRO Radio’s Rachel Belle visited a troop meeting and talked to the girls about how they came to Mary’s Place, what they like about Girl Scouts, and the one thing they’d love to do most: GO CAMPING! Check out her story here: Homeless girls join their first Girl Scout Troop at Mary’s Place
UPDATE! The troop has scheduled their first overnight camping trip for early September and we need some supplies! Can you help make this trip possible? We have a list of items to make a camping trip possible for 20 girls, donations have already started coming in here’s what we still need:
Cash donations (make yours in honor of Scouting) will help us buy supplies and any extra will be used to start a fund to support troop activities for girls and boys in the future!
ANOTHER UPDATE! We have received all the camping items on our list, thank you so much!! We could still use some help making sure the girls can buy food for their camp out! We’ve started a Scout Fund to make sure we can support this trip and future scouting endeavors going forward, we’d like to expand our scouting program to other shelters!
